ASU Commencement
February 2009
This site was the most exciting project I have been able to work on to date-- especially as I will be graduating this coming May! This site was a redesign done during my time as a student worker for the Provost Web and Publication Design Group and also with the Office of the President. The redesign was intended to bring the site up to ASU standards (gold header/footer) and make updating easier (Drupal), but it ended up being a redesign in navigation and content as well.
New Navigation
Trusting my instincts and pulling from my immediate needs as a student using the site, I proposed a new navigation structure that created new, sensisble divisions in the pages and removed an FAQ page that was becoming a dropbox for misplaced information. I also created site map-style navigation for the home page to allow users to access the interior pages easily.
New Content
With the new navigational structure in place, I was able to move the site content to more appropriate locations as well as create new content with updated information. We also had editors within our group proofread and edit the content, which was a great help. I created printable checklists for grads and guests as there are many confusing steps to the process of graduating (I know this first-hand).
Site Design
The design of the site is simple and intended to highlight the important information as well as the great photography that has been taken at past ceremonies.
Site Editing
This site makes it easy to change the content because of the WYSIWYG editor within each Drupal page. I have used Views to allow important dates and announcements to be created and automatically sorted and displayed without administrators bothering with having to change older content or touch any code.
