Arizona Indicators

Site Design by Brittany Smiley
This site was created during my time with the Institute for Social Science Research at ASU during my summer internship. Please note that I did not design this site. Credit for the site design goes to Brittany Smiley, who was an absolute pleasure to work with. This site was a redesign for the existing Arizona Indicators site.
The Design
Brittany's redesign was intended to create a look that represented Arizona and pulled the natural colors of the landscape. She also picked images to go with the main page for each category to give a visual representation. The animated swf on the front page was done by me at the request of the client. The first iteration of this site incldued a Flash carousel, which I customized with Actionscript 3 and XML integration.
The Development
My part in this design was to re-code the existing site to fit with the new design. Luckily, the existing code was standards-compliant and saved me the step of cleaning up any bad code. Along with adapting the XHTML content and CSS, I also added accessiblity to this site for hearing-impaired, visual-impaired, and color blind users. My boss, Brittany, and I worked together to figure out usability issues for the design. The menu system, also, was done by my boss. Although I am no longer a part o this project, I am happy that I was able to be a part of such an impactful redesign.
